Learn German A2: Past Particle (P II) in Perfekt Lesson 4. While In spoken language, we often use the present perfect tense (Perfekt) to talk about something that happened in the past.

So, In this lesson, we learn the conjugation of past particle (P II) in German. Because there are different ways to make ” Past Particle ” in Perfekt in German.

While The present perfect is formed from two parts:

a) In second position in the sentence is a simple clause with the auxiliary verb haben or sein, Meanwhile It is conjugated as in the present tense.

b) While, the activity described in the sentence is expressed using the second verb at the end of the sentence. So, this verb is in a special form, the past participle. Meanwhile, most past participles start with the prefix ge-.

So, The sentence structure of present perfect tense in German is as follows:

Subject + hilfsverb (sein/haben) + ————- Partizip II

While, Partizip II is the past particle in up given equation. And meanwhile this equation narrates us sentence structure of present perfect tense in German.

Regular Verbs Conjugation (Perfekt)

Meanwhile, Most of the times regular verbs have the conjugation for present perfect tense as follows:

ge + verbstamm + t

While, there are few regular verbs which have the conjugation for present perfect tenses as follows:

ge + verbstamm + et

Few Regular verbs have been mentioned in following table! While, We have mentioned the verb ”haben” also. Therefore, you can see most of verbs are conjugated with the auxiliary verb ”haben”.

Ich habe gestern lange gekocht. (I have cooked long time yesterday.)

Ich habe letztes Jahr Spanisch gelernt. (I have learned spanish last year.)

Wir sind zusammen gereist. (We have traveled together.)

Was hast du gestern gemacht? (What you have done yesterday?)

Ich habe auch am Sonntag gearbeitet. (I have also worked on Sunday.)

Wie lange hast du gestern Musik gespielt? (How long have you played music yesterday?)

Ihr habt letzte wochenende geredet. (You have talked last weekend.)

Hast du sein vater gesucht? (Have you looked for his father?)

Sie haben nichts gesagt. (You have not said anything.)

Hast du gestern deinen Lehrer gefragt? (Have you asked your teacher yesterday?)

Verbs Conjugation with ending ”ieren” (Perfekt)

Meanwhile, The conjugation of verbs with ending ”ieren” is as follows:

Sie haben ihm alle gratuliert. (They all have congratulated him.)

Ich habe alles probiert. (I have tried everything.)

Ali hat die Blumen fotografiert. (Ali has photographed the flowers.)

Conjugation of separable verbs (Perfekt)

So, Regular and irregular verbs are included in separable verbs and these verbs are conjugated as follows:

präfix + ge + verbstamm + t

While, in some cases, conjugation can be like that:

Der Regen hat aufgehört. (The rain has stopped.)

Unser Zug ist schon abgefahren. (Our train has already departed.)

Ich habe eingekauft. (I have shopped.)

Verbs ” ohne ge ”

While, few Regular and irregular verbs are conjugated as follows:
