Types of Apartments
Meine Eltern wohnen in einem Einfamilienhaus. – My parents live in a house.
Ich suche eine Wohnung. – I’m looking for a flat.
Wir wohnen in einer Wohngemeinschaft/WG. – We live in a flat share.
Mein Mitbewohner kocht gern. – My flatmate likes to cook.
die Miete – the rent
Im Stadtzentrum ist die Miete hoch. – The rent in the city centre is high.
Die Vermieterin ist freundlich. – The landlady is friendly.
The nouns “die Miete” (the rent) and “der Vermieter/die Vermieterin” (the landlord/the landlady) all come from the verb “mieten”: to rent!
Ich miete eine Wohnung mit hoher Miete von einem freundlichen Vermieter. – I rent a flat with a high rent from a friendly landlord.
die Adresse – the address
Kannst du mir deine Adresse geben? – Can I have your address?

1): die Hausnummer – the house number
Ich wohne in der Hausnummer dreißig. – I live at number thirty.
2): die Postleitzahl – the postcode
Meine Postleitzahl ist 14471. – My post code is 14471.
The usual format for writing addresses in German is:
first and last name: Farrukh Bashir
street name and house number: Berliner Straße 12
postcode and city: 12345 Berlin
