Basic Information about University

The UNIPI is an Italian public research University located in Pisa, Italy, founded in 1343. While, It is the 19th oldest extant university in the world and the 10th oldest university from Universities in Italy for International Students. So, There are 20 departments in the University of Pisa. While, Bachelor’s degree programmes are 58 and master’s degree programmes are 67 in the University of Pisa. Meanwhile, Postgraduate and PhD options are 67. So, Major Departments include biology, mathematics, Engineering, Economics, Law, Physics with many more. 

You can apply for bachelor’s and Master’s courses, These courses are offered in both Italian and English.  University offers Erasmus programmes also for International Students. While, There are exchange programmes available for students.

UNIPI tuition fee varies 356 Euros up to 2,556 Euros. While, It can be paid in installments. Meanwhile, It is possible to get reduction in tuition fee at the UNIPI up to 267 Euros based on merit and 2,400 Euros based on need and low income. This applies for all courses at UNIPI. 

Following three scholarships are offered for students at University of Pisa:

18 Merit Scholarships  

The scholarship can be applied to one of the fourteen  Master Degrees taught in English language, or in the Bachelor’s Degree in Management for Business and Economics.

Benefits of Scholarship:

Scholarship is fully funded for the first year. It grants 6,000 Euros for the whole academic year and eligible student does not need to pay a tuition fee also for the first year. 

For the second year of the master degree course, the grant is 8,000 euros per year and a 50% reduction in tuition fee for eligible students. To obtain the scholarship for the 2nd year, the student should maintain good academic results from the 1st year of the study course.  

While for the second and third year of the Bachelor’s degree course, scholarship awards 8,000 Euros per year and a reduction of 50% tuition fee. The student should maintain good academic results to get the scholarship. 

Eligibility Criteria:  

Students must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree course at the University of Pisa to be considered for a merit-based scholarship. Students admitted in one of these  Master Degrees taught in English language, or in the Bachelor’s Degree in Management for Business and Economics are eligible for a merit-based scholarship. All international students can apply for the courses mentioned above to get the opportunity of a fully funded scholarship.

Students do not have to apply separately for the scholarship. All students are considered for merit-based scholarships automatically. 

Evaluation of applicants:

All the applications are evaluated by following factors.

  • How good is applicant’s CV.
  • Higher Academic percentage is preferred
  • Motivation letter 
  • Interview results of candidate also matter.

Deadlines:

The candidate must submit an application for course registration before deadlines. To apply for the courses at the University of Pisa, mid-March is the last date each year. Make sure, you apply this deadline.  

Final Results:  

The selection of International candidates for scholarships would be done before they apply for the visa. Students who would get scholarships will be able to show proof of the scholarship during the pre-enrollment phase to demonstrate to have sufficient economical means to afford to study in Italy at the competent Italian diplomatic Representation.

DSU Scholarship 

DSU stands for Diritto allo Studio Universitario in Italian. Its agency, which awards scholarships for international students. There are fully funded scholarships by DSU. 

Benefits:

DSU scholarships include free accommodation, free meals at the university, monthly allowances to cover extra expenses. It includes the full tuition fee for the course. The grant is awarded for one academic year. It can be extended for next year, but students need to apply again with the new application. 

DSU awards scholarships for disable students also. 

Eligibility Criteria:  

The students who want to study at the University of Pisa or those students who have already enrolled in a course at the University of Pisa can apply for DSU Scholarships. 

What is Application Process?

Interested students should submit an online application on www.dsu.toscana.it. The beauty of the DSU Scholarship, you can apply for the scholarship, even you are not enrolled at the university yet. Students need to fill the online application form and attach supporting documents with it. The low-income students are preferred for this DSU Scholarship. The most important document is, attach a document certifying the family economic status together with a copy of a valid identity document. Other supporting documents are the Motivation letter and Resume. 

The students must verify they do not belong to high income and high-status family through a certificate. The Italian embassy in your home country and Italy would approve the certificate before submission. All the documents should be translated into the Italian language.  

Deadlines:

DSU Scholarship’s applications are open in July each year and are closed in first week of September each year. Check all important deadlines on DSU Toscana website. 

Final Results:

DSU draws a list of eligible candidates by the end of September each year. The final list of scholarship holders is approved by the end of November each year. The results of grants allocation will be published at www.dsu.toscana.it

MAECI Scholarships 

Every year the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation offers scholarships to international students. The allowance of  900 Euros per month is paid to eligible students. Funds are paid quarterly. 

The students must hold a valid degree before applying for scholarship and they should come from the eligible foreign countries. The list is published every year at this link. The students must show certificate of English language level for the courses taught in English. 

How to apply:

Applicants must complete and submit the online application form available upon registration at the following link. 

Results:

Applicants would be short listed by a Committee set up by the Italian Diplomatic Mission in the applicant’s country of origin. Grants will be awarded after analyzing the attached documents.
